Welcome Back to the Team Aaron
We are very excited to announce the appointment of Aaron Nicholson as our new assistant coach, who was appointed in February. He will work with recently officially appointed Rowing Programme Lead and Head coach Iain Docwra.
Aaron, himself, learned to row at GUBC whilst studying Sport and Exercise Science. He had an impressive career as an athlete, racing at Henley Royal and as part of the Scotland Team in his time at the university.
Following a hugely successful start to his coaching career as the Lead Coach at Clydesdale Amateur Rowing club, Aaron is ‘excited to return to the club that to first introduced me to rowing’ and is ‘looking forward to new challenges with GUBC.’
Aaron has made a huge difference supporting Docwra’s programme, adjusting to the change in training environment over the past month to support our athletes.
Having lead the programme since September, Iain is excited to have officially stepped in to the role as Head Coach. Iain has been part of the Glasgow programme since 2015 where he has supported many athletes to perform at the highest level, and has taken a key role in all of our most successful crews over the past few years.
Here is what Iain had to say about what he wants to make of the role: ‘It is now time for me to carve my own path and way of delivering the University of Glasgow rowing programme. I am excited to see where we can take GUBC next’.
We are very excited to see what this team, supported by volunteer coach Fraser Quinn and S&C coaching from Resilience PPE, will deliver in the coming years!
