GUBC qualify strong contingent at Henley Women’s Regatta
Glasgow University Boat Club qualify nine athletes in an impressive showing at Henley Women’s Regatta
HENLEY-ON-THAMES – At the centre of the British Rowing Universe sits the vaunted Henley Stretch, and at the first of the four regattas of the season, Glasgow University gave a strong showing.
The Frank V Harry Cup for Development Coxed Fours attracts the largest entry of the entire event, and the Glasgow University Boat Club entry set a time down the course of 5:31.5, qualifying them 15th for the side by side racing. Once the draw came out they were placed up against strong Edinburgh University ‘B’ crew who were the better of the GUBC entry despite a strong performance from the crew. This crew would only go on to be defeated by the eventual winners of the event.
In the Cathy Cruikshank Trophy for Academic Coxless Fours, the Glasgow crew put up a sterling performance, setting the 6th fastest time in the time trials, but an unfortunately timed current as they came through the end of the island sent them into the booms and despite a promising recovery row, they ran out of water, falling to the crew from Imperial College London.
